U.S. Approves Nvidia Chip Exports to Armenia for AI Supercomputer Project
The U.S. has authorized Nvidia to export advanced AI chips to Armenia, marking a strategic partnership between the tech giant and the Caucasus nation. The chips are destined for Firebird, an Armenian AI startup developing a supercomputer. This move aligns with a broader U.S. strategy to leverage AI technology as diplomatic currency, bypassing traditional military deployment.
The TRUMP administration, which greenlit the deal, has similarly approved AI chip sales to the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, internal White House discussions aim to block congressional efforts restricting further Nvidia exports. The approval underscores Armenia's growing role in a tech-driven geopolitical chessboard.
Beyond chips, the U.S. secured exclusive rights to develop a transit corridor through Armenia under a peace agreement brokered by Trump. Dubbed the 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,' the corridor WOULD provide Washington direct access to Central Asia, amplifying its regional influence.
